Kansas Photo Blog of landscapes and nature, farm scenes, cities and towns, rustic, rural, urban, people, animals and wildlife by Anna and Preston Surface.
We are Preston and Anna of Surface & Surface Photography. We live in the middle of the Kansas prairies and Flint Hills. Photography has always been a favorite pastime and is a shared passion. Our focus is photographing all about Kansas and the Kansas Flint Hills in a variety of subjects and themes.
During the 1980s and 1990s we had a 35mm Minolta X-370 with various lens and filters. A heavy camera that was slung around the neck along with a big black bag filled with film and all gadgets hanging from the shoulder. Then we bought our first digital camera, fixed lens, 3.2 MP with a few nice features. We were able to take some really nice photos but the zoom wasn't really a zoom, and the quality, depth, and precision wasn't the best. We switched from being picture takers to photography lovers.
We love taking pictures of everything and anything... experimenting with composition, different apertures, shutter speeds, light and dark...and so many endless possibilities as serious novices. We primarily photograph animals, farm scenes, Kansas, landscapes, nature, pets, and still life...also art, events, objects, mixed-bag, and people. In color and black & white photography.
We use Canon semi-professional digital SLR cameras and Canon lenses.
Our photography gallery, Surface and Surface Photography Gallery, features selected best and favorite photographs and art available for prints or digital downloads for purchase.
We are journeying and storytelling photographers.
Journey with us and enjoy! Thanks for stopping by.

Sometimes we don’t know what we will find out in the Kansas countryside. This property had some intriguing stuff but not a house. The outhouse has a toilet. The sign hanging by the top of the windmill reads: “Land of Ah’s”. Also, behind the windmill there is a cellar in the ground with a pipe...

We created and posted this Black and White video last year, 2009, featuring several years of photos I had taken of abandoned places, buildings, houses, barns, vehicles along with video clips by Preston.
