Early Friday morning, October 24, 2008, a crowd gathered at the Harveyville Fairgrounds to watch the Kelly Miller Circus set up the big top. The circus consisted of 35 trucks and about 70 staff. Even though the weather was chilly and damp, eager and curious bystanders gathered as children pointed wide-eyed at all the things to see. The well-tended circus animals greeted those who wandered by.
The circus troupe of workers and truck drivers tirelessly labored setting up on muddy, soaked grounds. The circus staff graciously allowed inquisitive onlookers to move about the grounds, as they orchestrated raising the big top, and prepared the concession stands and midway. As if by magic, the circus and midway were in full operational swing by late afternoon for the 4:30 PM and 7:30 PM shows. The Kelly Miller Circus featured an ample variety of performances with amazing animal acts, engaging clowns, and dazzling trapeze artists that mesmerized and entertained all.
The Kelly Miller Circus’ entire entourage is to be commended and appreciated for their hard work and ceaseless efforts from dawn to dusk. The circus day progression provided an experience of great sights to see and dazzling shows.
The City of Harveyville sponsored the circus. A percentage of ticket sales proceeds went to the benefit of the Ball Association, M. V. Youth Wrestling, and the Scouts.
