Un-New Kansas Barn

This barn was put together with some mighty fine timber and lasted for a good long time, but all things come to an end. Anna and I have photographed many old barns and out buildings over the years which are no longer standing. In a very short time this barn will be nothing more than a bunch of rubble.

When I lived in South Texas, there were a handful of barns and out-buildings I watched for ten years, slowing sinking into the ground. It takes a long time, but if people leave them alone, it’s almost as if you can see the years pressing down on them.

On the other hand, there’s nothing like old cypress barnwood for tables, curio cabinets, etc. A friend (now long gone) used to scavange wood from his native Mississippi for his woodworking shop here in Texas. He did beautiful things.
