Kansas Winter Flint Hills at sunset photographed yesterday evening closing an outstanding spring like day. The evening skies were glorious hues with the yellow sinking sun over the rolling hills in an expansive ah view. With this photo, I processed in Lightroom3 and used Topaz filters for detail stylization and texture. I am finding I prefer to add texture or grain into my photos. Some would prefer crisp, clean, noiseless photos. And odd, perhaps, that I would shoot with an expensive camera to get crisp, clean, noiseless photos to then go add texture. Why would I do this? For an artistic purpose. I prefer texture interwoven and superimposed with the image giving a painted on canvas appearance. If you were to enlarge the photo, you would see the texture. For me, texture brings life and gives rise to the details of the image. My preference comes from long ago as I grew up with an artist mother who painted vivid scenes with oil paints. The easel, the paints, the scent, and evolving picture on canvas. You could reach out and feel the texture as well as see the texture of the picture (when dry of course). This is how I see when photographing and what I desire for appearance as a photographer and digital artist. I’m still working on how to do this, though, in various ways using post processing programs and Painter 11. I do believe I will evolve in finding my niche in this painterly textured photographic art this year, in which is my vision.

Big big sky.
Great.
Stunningly beautiful!
You’re certainly well on your way. And texture can add a lot – especially with the sort of subjects you often photograph.
Have you every produced any of your photos as giclees? I think they’d be beautiful.
Beautiful, Anna.
This is a beautiful scene and also a beautiful image.
YesBut, indeed there are big, big skies here. Thanks!
Barbara, thank you!
Shoreacres, I am getting more and more artsy and using texture. I haven’t produced my photos (we haven’t) in giclees but I would love too. That is something for the near future, for sure. Thank you!
Robin, thank you!
Montucky, thank you!
