Wide Tree, Windmill and Outhouse

Sometimes we don’t know what we will find out in the Kansas countryside. This property had some intriguing stuff but not a house. The outhouse has a toilet. The sign hanging by the top of the windmill reads: “Land of Ah’s”. Also, behind the windmill there is a cellar in the ground with a pipe sticking up. Indeed, Kansas is the “Land of Ah’s” with the unusual, the abandoned, and as well as the landscapes and skies beauty.

What an interesting ‘scape’! An outhouse, windmill, and cellar — no house. Hmmmmm! Maybe the cellar was one of those underground houses?

“Land of Ah’s.” I like that.

Very interesting scene and story to go with it.

The tree certainly appears to embrace all the possibilities. Wonder who’s living in the cellar. Probably a writer. Broke and eccentric.

With all those elements remaining, it would seem there must have been a house there at one time. But what was it like? And whatever became of it? And what about the family? There’s a story there than will likely never be written.

Hi Barbara. I believe the cellar was and is just an old cellar. A house most likely was on the property long ago and it was either torn down or blown down or burned down… the three choices common. Yes, this was an interesting sight. :)

Hi Robin. The slogan for Kansas as the “Land of Ah’s” was promoted about twenty years ago. Yes, I bet this scene has a very intriguing story to go with it. :)

Hi Gerry. LOL A broke and eccentric writer living in the cellar. Indeed. Reminds me of the bad side of a character in a Stephen King novel. :)

Hi Montucky. I wonder what kind of house was there before as if it was wooden or stone. There is always a story about the family that once lived in these old, abandoned places and not told. :)
