Volland, Kansas Revisit

While in Volland, Kansas, Preston and Moppet were by the railroad tracks when a train blasted and thundered through. Scared the daylights out of Moppet and he went a-running. Thunderstorms and trains do not agree with Moppet, poor dog, but he will stand up to cows and donkeys.

These are other views of the Old General Store in Volland, Kansas. Some serious brick and it must have been a lot of work to bring all that brick out to the prairie and build such a big building. From what I recall, the folks who had owned the general store had lived on the second floor.

Impressive building – and on the praire too. Was it daydreams about loads of people moving out there that never came true that made them build such a large (and amazing) house? It still looks great despite its current condition.

Those are excellent photos, Anna! Great color! With that train suddenly appearing out of the trees, I don’t blame Moppet for heading for other parts.

Staffan, on was cattle back then with a lot of people traveling in on the railroad right on its doorstep. People moved out to the prairie to farm and raise livestock. The old red brick building was a general store downstairs and living quarters upstairs. It is completely collapsed inside and the walls are crumbling more and more each season. Sad to see..

Montucky. That train did seem to popped out of the trees and disturb Moppet’s sniffing about. I keep an eye on Volland and have been in and out of there for 18 years. The buildings are left as is and to deteriorate in time and weather.

The first photo with Moppet running is so cute. I am also very impressed about this building. It is still so nice looking.

Sartenada, Moppet somehow, someway ends up in a photo or two during a photo shoot. Yes, the building is still impressive.
